Day 3 of our cruise we spent in Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands.
We spent time exploring the city,
Annie, Suzanne and I visited the Botanical Gardens
while Sabrina, Mathieu and Martin visited the
Art Galeries.
I add the photo of the Netherlands to distinguish
where Amsterdam is in the district of Holland.

Some building in the old part of Amsterdam
are built on wetlands with wooden
stilts holding up the building.
The houses are leaning caused by soil sinking.
The beams sticking out at the tops of the
buildings, I explain in next photo.
Many canal houses were deliberately
built with a forward tilt
(the white house on the right) to hoist
furniture and goods using the beam
at the top of the building without hitting
and damaging the building.

Anne Frank was a German born Jewish
girl who perished in the Holocaust.
She had kept a diary documenting
her life while in hiding with her
family in an attic in Amsterdam
from the Germans, the family was later
captured and died in a concentration camp.
After the war ended, her diary was found
and many books published on her story.
She dreamed of becoming a writer.

I loved Amsterdam. So walkable (as long as you watch out for bicycles!). And so very interesting. Thanks for a wonderful tour.
