Christmas Memories

Christmas is nearly upon us
I am posting some of my
 Vintage Christmas Decorations

Milk Glass Collection - dates back to early 1900's.
These are only a few of my collection.

Trees and a Little Deer. I am sharing some info from Wikipedia : In 1930 the U.S.-based Addis Brush Company created the first artificial Christmas tree made from brush bristles.[8] The company used the same machinery that it used to manufacture toilet brushes.[2] The trees were made from the same animal-hair bristles used in the brushes, save they were dyed green.[3] For a time, the brush trees were immensely popular, with large numbers exported to Great Britain, where the trees also became popular.[2] These brush trees offered advantages over the earlier feather trees. They could accept heavier ornamentation,[4] and were not nearly as flammablIe.
(oops...you can see my camera in the pic)

Carolers

This Creche (Manger)  I bought in the early 70's at "T. Eaton Co." - Passed on to my Daughter
Figurines "Made in Italy"

Vintage German Sheep- early 1900's. Flea Market find.(I couldn't find info on their history)

Camels- made in Italy. I bought them at Woolworth. (70's)
The pretty trees behind I bought at "Les Ailes de la Mode", Montreal 2008

Vintage Cardboard Houses ..  (Source..Wikipedia)... After World War II, several Japanese companies started mass-producing cardboard or paper houses, churches, and other buildings. These small buildings usually had holes in the back or the bottom through which Christmas lights were placed to provide illumination. The buildings had tiny colored cellophane windows and were decorated with mica-dusted roofs to give the appearance of snow. Since these buildings were made of inexpensive material and were widely available throughout the United States, they became a very popular Christmas decoration

Whimsical Ballerinas

A homemade craft
made from music sheets
to decorate your home at Christmas
Hang on your tree or
 a pretty garland.
However,  these ballerinas
could be used anytime of year.
Great idea to decorated
for a birthday party.

*******
I am sharing this performance
 by young El Niño.
with André Rieu, conductor.
to view, click on it.

 I photocopied music sheets
on both sides of thick paper
 (8 1/2 by 11)
I traced 2 templates on the page
  I got from this site:
http://krokotak.com/2012/11/snowflake-ballerinas-for-crafty-moms/

Two ballerinas per page(on both sides of the page)

I used wired wrapping ribbon for the skirt (approx. 1 1/2 ins. wide)
I pleated the wire about 1/8 inch to gather the waist
and attached to the body with hot glue gun.

The embellishments to the neck and head I bought at Dollarstore and Walmart.
I also added fake fur
In the dark...

The sheet music I used is from
 Johannes Brahms
Hungarian Dance No. 5
one of my favourites.

Fun and so easy to make....

Thanks for your visit xo

its reason for being was nothing more

Ready for Winter

A beautiful Fall day here today.
I spent most of it outside, preparing for Winter.
A heavy snow fall in the forecast for tomorrow.
Decorated with Cedars, Rowan Berries and Barberries

Colorful - Perennial Geranium

Flower beds covered over with Burlap
The 2 red shrubs in the back are Barberry

Bushes protected from heavy snow
(Last Spring)....I didn't cover my shrubs last winter.
However, they did recover.
.I use pickets in the ground to
anchor the netting around the shrubs
Available at the Dollarstore
The strong winds will lift the netting of and blow it away.

I will leave these solar light there this winter. They help anchored my Burlap.
