My last blog on this cruise we took last June.
Our last stop on our Iceland Cruise,
was at the city of Reykjavík,
the capital city of Iceland.
We visited 2 previously stops in Iceland.
Akureyri and Isafjordur.
Icelandic nature is spectacular, with
erupting hot springs, glaciers and
waterfalls, all within a few hours' drive
from the city. A lot to see and experience.
Reykjavik is located south of the Arctic Circle.
In Summer there is sunlight all night long,
in Winter, only a few hours of sunlight.
In Spring, during our visit, the sunrise was
at 3:02am and sunset 11:54pm.
Over 99% of Iceland's electricity comes
comes from renewable sources, most of
them being hydro electric dams, connecting
main cities and villages, geothermal energy
extracted from the earth. Geothermal heating
using water from hot springs for baths etc.
Also the drinking water in Iceland
is the cleanest in the world.
The water flows naturally from glaciers
and is filtered through lava fields,
chemically untreated and still pure.
Our ship docked a 6am
After breakfast we took a shuttle bus to town.
We took this rainbow road which leads to this
famous church, the tallest building in Reykjavik.
On the 2nd day we took a tour bus and did
The Golden Circle into Thingvellir Park.
A 300km loop route that covers three main attractions.
The Tectonic Plates, The Gullfoss Waterfall
and the Erupting Geyser.
Pingvellir National Park
A gorge that defines the
North American tectonic plates with Europe.
A seven kilometres valley separates the two plates.
Tectonic activity has given rise
to this dramatic landscape.
Eurasian and North American tectonic
plates are slowly drifting apart.

Lunch time.
After all the walking, we were hungry.
More walking.
We walked to see the geysers.
Erupting Geyser
A hotspring that erupts every 6-10 minutes.
The area has several pools of water
too hot to touch, boiling.

These people are waiting for the geyser to erupt.
(Us included) It erupts every 6-10 minutes.
Gullfoss Waterfall
Martin, Suzanne and Sabrina walked to the waterfalls.
Annie and I did some shopping and eating.
No shortage of water.
Iceland has it's own breed of horses.
Other breeds are not allowed in the country.
And exported horses are not permitted to return.
Goodbye Iceland.
