Christmas Colander Centerpieces

For a centrepiece this year,
I am using my Mom's old colanders/strainers,
passed down to me.
My Mom always made our Christmas
so special. She is no longer with us,
so it's nice that she is part
of my Christmas decor.

I used
Dollarstore mini lights,
battery operated with a 8 hr. timer.
The box that hold the "AA"
batteries can be hidden in the colander,
out of sight.

Placed the lights in the colander between baubles.
I filled the colander with clear glass baubles/balls,
pretty with the lights shining through.

This one below, I filled with pinecones.
I put 2 sets of mini lights,
one clear lights,  and one multi colours.

I used craft paint from the Dollarstore
to paint the pinecones.

All the baubles/balls,  I found at thrift shops

I also change the lampshades and cushion covers.
Lampshades found at Thrift Store and painted red,
I leave the lampshades on until after Valentines Day.
Also,  cushion covers from the Dollarstore.

The colanders would be nice also
suspended by the handles.

This is the older one.
It's ironic that it has a "star" design.
The Star Of David.

Matthew 2: 1-2
Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
during the reign of King Herod.
About that time, some wise men
from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem,
and asked, "Where is the one
who has been born king of
the Jews? We saw his star when
it rose and have come to worship him."

Pretty in the dark.

A "timer"  is a great invention.
No.... "Alexa turn off the lights".
(no offence Alexa)

A very simple inexpensive decoration,
pretty in daytime and night.

A start to Christmas decorating.
The most Wonderful time of the year.

Thanks for your visit xo.💕

  2. What a wonderful idea! I am going to get out my mother's colanders and do one of these. I am pretty sure that one of her colanders had holes arranged in a star pattern, which would look even more festive! I have some of those lights in my stash, too. Thanks for sharing this fabulous idea!

    1. Thanks for your visit. I didn't realize that there was a star pattern. I looked at the one with pinecones and it IS A STAR PATTERN. I will photograph it again tonight to show the stars. I can't thank you enough for bringing this to my attention. 💖💖

    3. Also Mrs. T.,
I realize that the empty colander, (3rd photo above), is the one with stars. It is very very old.
It could have been my Grandmothers. And I am 72yrs. old.....Thelma xo

  3. Hi Thelma. What a pretty centerpiece you have created and it is even more special because they were your mom's. I love the keepsakes that we are lucky enough to have especially at this time of year for some reason. They are all so special. I don't envy you all the snow shoveling that you must have to do but I do love to see the snow. We don't get that much so I wait for it every year. Hope we get some soon as it is beginning to get very cold at night. We do live in California and even though the fires are quieting down now, I read in the paper this morning that we can expect more shut downs of our power. We live under a lot of trees and they are mostly worried about winds that would knock them down onto the power wires and starting another fire. It won't be so bad now that we have the generator. Thanks for your visit. I enjoyed hearing from you and hope you will visit again..Happy Tuesday..Judy

    1. Hi Judy.
Thanks for your visit. I do love the 4 seasons. I don't mind shovelling. It get me outside and give me some exercise. I do a lot of gardening in the other seasons so shovelling keeps me moving in the Winter.
I also have some tall trees around my house and I do worry with the high winds we get.
I'm glad you have a generator. It's not funny to be without power.
Take care and we will keep in touch. Thelma xo

  4. I never thought of balls in a colander but it looks wonderful with the lights. Gorgeous ornaments, too. We had our first snow as well, and while I'm not quite ready to prepare for Christmas outright, I'm certainly collecting ideas and this is a terrific one!

  5. Thelma, your colanders have made a big hit! They are so special having belonged to your mother. You have a unique centerpiece with both of them and they look very festive with the lights in them. Thank you for sharing at my No Place Like Home party.
